Pierce Lane Crumbley

Pierce was born on September 12 at 7:21 pm.  Monday at our last ob appointment, she told us to pick a day to be induced.  We went into the hospital Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 to start the process.  Around 5:30 Dr. Zeller started the cervadil to cause me to finish dilating.  The next morning at 6:30 the pitocin drip started and then sometime after that, maybe 8ish.  I started feeling some contractions and they began to hurt quite a bit, so I got what people had told me was some "good stuff". They lied.  The stadol did nothing for my pain. It just knocked me out, but I could still feel every contraction.  Around 9:30 the real good stuff started....aka epidural.  Oh that is the most wonderful medicine I have ever encountered.  The Dr had to insert the needle twice because the first one hit a nerve and she couldn't push the catheter past it.  I have heard that getting the epidural is painful, but not for me.  I really didn't feel the needles at all.  Before the test dose was finished being put in, the pain was gone.  I was back in heaven.  Pushing began a little before 5 and continued for 2 hours.  The last 30 minutes my legs started cramping really bad just below my bottom.  I felt like I needed to get up and walk around, and of course that is one thing I wasn't allowed to do.  Chad got to see the top of Pierce's head during this time and saw tons of hair on his head.  Dr. Zeller arrived and had me push through one contraction and I could tell by the look on her face that it was not good news.  She started shaking her head as she was telling me to push. The verdict was that I was not big enough to deliver him without the possibility of his shoulders breaking.  That was all I needed to hear to agree to a c-section.  So Chad packed up all our stuff, informed our parents and everyone waiting that it was time for a c-section, and put on his "daddy gear".  Almost immediately people started coming in and prepping me for the surgery.  I must say that it was not what I expected.  While we were in the operating room, we had the most casual conversations with everyone in there.  It was almost as if my insides weren't laid out for all to see.  As soon as Dr. Zellar saw him she said it was no wonder he wasn't coming out, he was face up, and a very large baby.  Then she asked who had the dimple in the chin.  Chad and I immediately started looking at each other's chins.  It seemed like forever before they showed him to me.  I was just so relieved that he was here and healthy.  Chad went with him to the nursery while they put me back together.  I hadn't been in recovery long before Chad joined me and then they brought Pierce to me.  I couldn't believe what a cute baby he was.  I think he got the best of both our features.  When I got to the room I was amazed at how many people were there.  Pierce came into this world one loved little boy.
